Well, that was kind of awkward...

On a very good note, I am super happy that he will come to me with um, any question.
But talking about sex with your 10, almost 11 year old son is still pretty awkward.
We started early.  With age appropriate conversations.  It has gone pretty smoothly so far.
It's still very wierd to hear your child ask you what "horny" means.  Someone gag me with a spoon.

He is on the cusp of adolescence.  Many of his friends are already there.  Some of them are taller than me.

We have been praying about his middle school options, and are very happy with his choice.

But I am still scared!  Being a kid isn't easy.  There are so many temptations.  It seems like what we dealt with in high school (socially, peer pressure, etc) is what middle school kids are dealing with now.

I know I can't seclude him.  I know I can't be there at school with him, holding his hand. Ha!  Can you imagine?  This is just the very beginning, the very tiny glimpse of what it's like to start letting go of your child.  Now, I know we're not there yet.  But I see it coming.  His friends are becoming very important to him.  His clothing choices are becoming very important to him.  All the signs of the pre-teenage years are here.

I want to let go of the fear and trust that he is growing to become a man of God.  That he will make smart choices and enjoy this time.  I also know that he must make his own mistakes to learn, that he is on his own path of life and that I am blessed to guide him.

Do you have any teenagers?  I wouldn't mind some insight...:)

Happy Wednesday!
xo,
Chrissie

I will be praying for this time to go as smoothly as possible. I know that you are doing an awesome job as mom! I am not looking forward to these days with my girl. I will look to you for advice soon!

I've always said that if kids are old enough to ask the questions, they are old enough to handle a frank and honest the answer (with an age appropriate response, of course). Good luck!
