You probably know how much I love children's art. My major in college was Art Education, even though I only taught for a couple of years before deciding to stay home with the kids.
It makes my heart flutter to see what pre-school kids create...there is no inhibition and although the end result is always precious, for them it is all about the process.
Our pre-school does an amazing job supporting the arts and every year they hold an annual art show. This year was as wonderful as always.
Ava's Pablo Picasso inspired self-portrait:
and her clay turtle:
Jackson's painting:
and collage:
(He was so very proud!)
And look! All four of our littles sitting together coloring so nicely...Mike said, "Hurry up! Get a picture of this!" haha

And on another note...I am guilty.
I really love my ipad...
and I really love my iphone...
(don't worry, it's just the screen protector that looks that bad!)
However, I think I love them too much.
You shall have no other gods before me.
Idolatry has fallen upon me in the form of my technology...
I get upset when my kids don't want to get off the wii or computer...
I complain about current technology and the impact it has on society...
and yet...
everytime my iphone beeps to let me know I have an email, I am quick to check it. I must look at that phone 100 times a day! I don't think I'm exaggerating...it's bad.
What if I opened up my bible 100 times a day? Or took the time to say 100 prayers in a day?
I mean I know it's all about balance...but I feel my little gadgets take up too much of my time and energy.
Today I am going to only let myself check it every 3-4 hours...that's a start, right?
Are you guilty of this at all? I know I can't be the only one...In this circle of blogging and internet friendships, how can we encourage each other with this?

Happy Happy Weekend!
See you Monday :)

Chrissie

Wow, talk about conviction. I am so guilty of this multimedia addiction. You really opened my eyes. I'm going to try and limit myself too.
I am doing a Facebook fast for Lent. It is very eye-opening!
I am SO guilty of the same technology addictions. I keep my iPhone by my bed so that I can check it first thing every morning and numerous times throughout the day. Facebook has been a huge time-waster as well. If I spent as much time creating as I do on social media I would have a wealth of new things done.
I'm with you,I love the art program at our elementry school, in fact I just met with the art teacher this a.m after Reagan begged me for the umpteenth time this week to go in and look at the art work she has up in the hallways. Love to see it and the way the kids are so excited to show everything off.
Technology.. my nemesis. I would get so much more done if I shut off the computer, it's like a drug. Self discipline is not my strong suit and I tyhink as a WAHM who is home alone all day and doesn't have very many close local friends, due to moving around every few years the computer becomes my outlet for when I'm bored or lonely
Thank you so much for being so honest about your conviction! That definately speaks to me too! & it's something you hardly realize until someone else, like you, brings it to your attention!
I have been convicted by the SAME stuff recently. I am in a Bible study which is studying the book of Isaiah this year. Week after week when we are hearing about the idols - I am convicted. We gave up all TV for lent. ....but I find we are still sitting on our phones (that are really little computers) for hours a day. I will try to open my Bible at least once a day when I reach for my phone. ...Baby steps.
....LOVE how your preschool displays the artwork! Will have to show it to our preschool teachers.
wow this is amazing and convictin!! i look at my phone so much too...and then wonder how my 15 month old knows exactly how to pretend shes on the phone with her hand at her ear. I want her to see me pray or check the Bible instead of my phone. So good. thanks and blessings!!
Thank you for this eye opening post. I admit I'm guilty of checking my iPhone for updates on ravelry, FB and my favorite blogs. They truly are a drain!
I Love childrens Art!!!!!:O) Have saved all my kids art! Now if only they would share with me there current Art:( They become teens and you have to really beg for it,all 3 take art in HS 2 in Hs 1 in college...as for how to stay away from all the techie stuff easy peasy for me I dont have those gadgets(wish I did) but for now I can do without:O) Have a great weekend and Thanks for sharing:O)
I've so been thinking the same thing. praying for wisdom & clarity & balance & help with this! It can get ridiculous.
Thanks for bringing it up!
I featured one of your paintings on my blog from your etsy shop!
your no loner on having trouble staying away from media/technology. it's the toughest thing for me especially because i work at a computer lab on campus!!!!! ya, its rough. i would encourage you though to only check your "social" media networks once/twice a day. i saw that FB was becoming an idol and after deactivating it for a month it was easy to slowing come back on and not check it as much because i forgot what it was like! and reward yourself if you take away more time for not being on. i don't know, maybe thats silly. i will try and find some encouraging verses as well!
