Mosaic Inspiration

I have been using pinterest as a way to unwind at night.  I lay in bed with my ipad and just drool over all the beautiful photos and inspiration.  I wanted to share some of the photos from my mosaic board.  Aren't they beautiful?

Happy Friday!  Have a blessed weekend.

Mirror Commission

I wanted to share with you a project I've been working on.  I was commissioned to make this mosaic mirror for a girl who is turning 12.  The family belongs to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  When girls turn 12 in the church they graduate from primary (junior sunday school) and enter the young women personal progress program. They spend the next 6 years learning, goal setting and serving others in an effort to develop 8 core values:  faith, divine nature, individual worth, knowledge, choice and accountability, good works, integrity, and virtue.  The mirror will be a gift to her as she enters this phase of her life.

Sorry about the so-so photos, it is so hard to photograph mirrors!

I think this is an amazing program, and I was so honored to create this gift for her!

I made one for her older sister a few years ago.  This is what hers looked like:

We don't have a program like this at our church, but I am so inspired by it.  What a beautiful way for a young girl to enter her womanhood.

Have a blessed Tuesday!

Bird of Salvation

I had an idea this weekend that I would love to make a small scale mosaic, because it's been so long!  I went out to the garage to get some wood and found these wooden birds that I had drawn but never cut out.

I picked a muted palette for this one, which is unusual for me.  But it felt calm and serene to work with these colors.  I'm so happy with the result.  With mosaics, it's usually a very long process.  I love working this size because it's a smaller gratification period! :)

It wasn't until after I was done that I decided to put scripture on the back.  I am envisioning making a lot of these birds.

Here is a sneek peek of one I'm working on right now.  Totally different color palette!

Sunflower Mosaic

I've been working on the commissioned sunflower mosaic for awhile now, and I was finally able to grout it this weekend.
I love the gold glass, and how the iridescent glass changes colors when it's hit by sunlight.
I used to work primarily in tile when I did mosaics.  Now I use almost all stained glass.  The color variations are endless.

Thanks for coming by. I'm linking up to Heather's Life Made Lovely Monday.
Happy Monday! :)

Fly Free

Hello Friends!
I wanted to share with a little custom mosaic dragonfly I made for someone.  It is a small piece but I love the iridescent glass in the wings.

After a crazy few weeks, things are finally starting to settle down around here.

I think some of you may relate to this.  Do you ever feel like you are just juggling too many balls?  Sometimes life gives you a magical rythym that allows you to do many things at once.  And sometimes it all becomes so overwhelming that you slowly start dropping balls until they have all hit the floor.
Sometimes I just need to remind myself what is really important.
Sometimes prayer, exercise, and taking care of my family and the house is all I can handle in one day.
Sometimes I get lucky and I can fit in some creative time.  I need to learn to balance these days better, and at the same time, not beat myself up when I can't be Superwoman.

(She) will have no fear of bad news; (her) heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.  (Her) heart is secure, (she) will have no fear; in the end (she) will look triumph on (her) foes.
Psalm I I 2: 7-8

Have a great weekend!
Remember to take a deep breath and savor where you're at.

Mosaic Daisy

I don't have a lot to say today. But I wanted to share a recent commission with you.

I love how it turned out! I just might have to make one for our house too!
Happy Wednesday Friends.

I'm back

I'm back!!:) I want to show you one of my latest projects.
This is a four piece mosaic panel I've been working on for a very long time. I attribute my no blogging period to finally finishing it. It is now living up in North Carolina.
I used stained glass, mirror, tile, glass beads, and river rock pebbles. I love the brown/blue combo. It's so soothing.
Each piece measured approximately 12" x 24".
It is meant to be hung but I photographed it on the floor. It feels good to have this project finished and sent off!:)
I've decided to take on some advertising spaces. If you have a blog, etsy business, website, etc. that you would like to promote, I will be accepting ad spaces for $15 a month. Please email me at gracechrissie@yahoo.com for more info if you are interested.
I am so happy to be back in the blogging world. I'll be back on Monday to show you some more of my completed projects. Have a blessed weekend!:)

Mosaic Butterflies

Well, dang it, I thought I would get much better photos of these butterflies.
There are three of them. My almost 18 year old customer asked for purple, yellow, and pinks...
I used stained glass and tile (why oh why can't I get this picture to come in right?)
Oh well. I still need to add wire antennae...and then they'll be done. They really are much prettier in person...
The flowers are gorgeous too. I hope my neighbor doesn't mind me using her front walk for photo shoots ;)
Did you have a nice weekend?
I'm pooped! Does anyone else ever look forward to Monday mornings when everyone goes to school/work? I love the weekends, but they are still a lot of work! :)

What a week...Lots of WIP's

What a week!
With some minor health issues for the kids now resolved, I've got quite a few projects that are all considered works in progress. That is how I work...always have. When I get an idea I feel like I have to start it, (I think I'm afraid if I don't bring it to fruition I'll lose the idea!), so I usually have at least a couple going on at once.
Not pictured are quite a few Valentines Day projects with and for the kids, but I'll be sure to show them to you soon!
This is a mosaic for my beloved aunt. I have been working on this one forever, but I'm getting close to grouting it. I can't wait to show you the finished project.

I finally started Logan's quilt. He asked for black and white prints, and I threw the yellow in the mix so it wouldn't look to jumbly. I'm hoping it will turn out more gender neutral. I didn't realize it would start looking so feminine, but he says he likes it. I'm planning on binding it in a solid red...
The whole Kindergarden is celebrating one hundred days of school tomorrow, so I've been helping Ashton with this project all week. I think it's a very early lesson in learning how to break up projects so you don't wait until the last minute. He had a lot of fun scavenging through my paper collection.
Week two for this quilt was cutting the fabrics. Since the picture I've also cut the white fabrics and I can't wait until Monday to piece the top together. I'm loving the fabric combination.
Last but not least, a pretty big three-panel painting I've been working on since January for our living room. It is very colorful, full of glitter, painted and collaged, and very child-like. I'm totally working off all of the kids input and it's really fun.

I hope your creative juices are flowing too. The sun finally came out today and we've had beautiful weather. We've got a weekend full of track meets, baseball practice, and church activities. It should be a good one!:)

See you on Monday!
