Funky Houses

Remember when I showed you these houses last week? I got them for 99 cents a piece at Goodwill. I had so much fun repurposing them. (Too much fun, I think:) I worked on them off and on all weekend. I had so much fun creating them that I may ask my husband to help me cut some more out of wood.

I've got two more houses to finish, and I'll be sure to show them to you when they are done.

Rainbows

Doesn't this picture just make you want to create something?

I finished making this rainbow art quilt las night and I started looking for rainbow related things that might want to come live at my house. I LOVE COLOR!

My brother and his family got me this Free-spirited angel for my birthday. I love it! I found it and the bowl beneath it on this website. They have tons of wonderful eye-candy.

Okay, now that I'm inspired I'm off to paint. Remember my Dr.Suess houses from Goodwill? Come back Monday to see what I do with them. I can tell you one thing for sure~they will be full of color!

Tutorial-Fabric wrist cuffs (or coffee wraps)

I made a tutorial for you, but you have to promise not to laugh at my teeny, veiny hands with teeny chewed off nails. It's my worst habit ever. But anyhoo~if you can get over that, let's move on... These fabric cuffs can be made to wear, or to use as a coffee wrap. You creative chickies could probably come up with a lot more uses!

Step One: Cut your background fabric. My wrists are very small, so my measurements were 3" x 7". I would assume most women would need it to be around 9"? Cut a piece of batting slightly smaller.

Step Two: Cut a bunch of fabrics into 1" x 3" pieces. I used random colors to make mine funky looking, but a matching set would be beautiful.Step Three: Lay two pieces of fabric back to back and sew them together.

Step Four: Press them open with your iron and continue piecing together until you've got all your strips sewn together.

Step Five: Make a fabric sandwich: Background fabric, batting, and your strips. Pin it to keep it together.

Step Six: I used a swirly decorative stitch and sewed three lines vertically.

Step Seven: Trim all the sides if anything looks uneven, and then sew a straight stitch all the way around.

Step Eight: Use adhesive velcro to connect the two sides. If you feel like being fancy, use a button and ribbon to close off.

This project could be jazzed up in so many ways. If you make one, please send me a picture. I would love to see how your creative minds interpret it!:)

My Summer Surroundings

I've never participated in this before, but I found her blog through Kammy's blog. I love all the beautiful summer surroundings. Here are some of mine right now...

Some finds

I'm a little late to Rhoda's link-up, but I wanted to show you what I got last week.

I haven't been buying anything at Goodwill or at any garage sales for a few weeks. The prices have been way too high. Higher than some retail stuff at Wal-mart or even Target. But I did good this week.

I actually saw these wooden Suess-like houses a week or so ago when I dropped some stuff off. They were $1.99 each, and since I wasn't buying anything else, I left them. As soon as I got home, I regretted not buying them.

Can you believe they were still there? They were only 99 cents each this time. I can't wait to paint them up!

I love this scrolly mirror. It was only $2.99. I plan on painting it a whimsical color, like turquoise or lime green, as soon as I find a good spot for it. I may even take the mirror out and put some original art in it.

We all know cloche's can be costly. This one was $1.29. I plan on painting the wood white and creating a little fairy scene in it. I'll be sure to show it to you when it's done.

I love this finnial too. It is large and very heavy. It is going in my living room as is. (Very very high on a shelf, away from children and babies:)

Last but not least, did I mention I had all 4 of my littles with me? They behaved so well, they all got to pick out something. The VHS movies were 39 cents each, and the DVD's were 99 cents. The books were all 50 cents a piece.

We are not getting any internet connection at our condo on the beach, so I am posting this at the local library. I've gotten so much good crafting and art done, I want to show you all of it!! But my posting will be a little sporadic for a couple weeks. Come back soon though, I've got a great tutorial for you:)
