For the first time in 10 years, I am not doing any Fall art shows. It is a bittersweet feeling. I dread them and love them at the same time. But I have so much going on right now that it was too stressful to sign up for any. So I've decided to do an on-line sale just for my bloggy friends.

This fabric collage is made around a printed version of one of my favorite quotes:"A House is made of bricks and beams A Home is made of love and dreams." The piece is made up of some of my favorite fabric scraps, machine stitched with decorative stitches, and has a small wooden cross attached.The piece is sewn to a white fabric background and hangs on a piece of wood.The final size measures 9" x 13".

Old Family Photos

It's finally Friday! Yippee! I'm feeling much, much better and ready to rock and roll!
Maybe next week I'll have some art or decorating to show you...;)
But first let me introduce you to some women in my family.
This is my mother...

They are all beautiful, wouldn't you agree?
There is something about old photos that makes me kind of weak in the knees. My family (on both sides) were really great about taking lots and lots of pictures. I love them all.


Marie over here is having an heirloom party today. If you've never visited her blog, take a gander. Marie is a bloggy friend you'll want to make. She always leaves super sweet comments and she's having a give-away. Let me know if you post any old photos...

More proof of my crafting ADD

I started making these quilt squares over a year ago after seeing the tutorial here. (Be careful going to this site, TONS of eye candy!)
I found them last night. They haven't been trimmed yet.

They are made up 100% from my scrap pile. I love love love all the colors, prints, and textures!

They are time consuming. I have 30 completed so far, and about another 30 with the scraps cut and ready to go. After my new book was approved, I put them away and totally forgot about it!

Can't you see them quilted with plain white blocks in between each one? I love to play with them and move them all around. (Um, is that weird?;)

You know I love to paint, make mixed-media collages, mosaic, design home decor, and sew. But quilting? My new obsession. More proof of my crafting ADD. I will say for myself, though, I do usually finish almost everything that I start.

This one, however, is going to take quite a while.

It's all good though. It's part of the fun!

Update

I've been advised by all my bloggy friends that the iphone may be saved.
Here he is laying in his "rice" bed by the window. Two more days and I'll plug him back in. I'll let you know if it worked.
Due to our Dave Ramsey diet, I have decided I won't be purchasing a new iphone. I have to tell you the truth...this is not my first iphone. I bought my first one a couple of years ago, and I left it in a place where one of the kids had access to it, where it was dropped and the screen cracked. After living with that for about 6 months, my husband bought me a new one. So this second one should have been put in a safer spot too. If it can't be resurrected, I'm going with a cheapy for awhile.
Spending another $300 when we are committed to paying off all debt feels very irresponsible to me.
So I'll let you know if the "rice" bed works!:) I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I've still got this funky head cold going on...it has pretty much zapped me of all creative energy. The coughing has made my back and ribs really sore...so yesterday I pretty much laid in bed all day and rested.
I have started quilting the quilt, but the tutorial is not ready for the week. As soon as I can get back to it, I will.

So the highlight so far of my week? Watching my all-time favorite childhood movie with kids, and them actually really enjoying it. I was in second grade when this movie came out, and I played my cassette tape soundtrack over and over and over...I still know all the words!

Don't call me...

Beloved and constant companion.
He's been bumped and bruised, scratched and fractured.
But today he drowned in our pool.
Some days I don't know if I should laugh or cry...

P.S. Does anyone know how to make $300 in 24 hours or less?

Good finds from Goodwill...

I have been dragging through the weekend with a nasty head cold. You know the kind that makes you feel like you have a brick sitting in your sinus cavity? Yeah, lots of fun...
But I did manage to get to Goodwill on Friday morning. Wanna see what I found?
This metal heart was 99 cents. You know I have a "thing" for hearts with wings. Here's the before:

I just modge-podged some scrapbooking paper on it, printed out the words on my computer, and used crackle over the words.

I found this frame for 99 cents too. I love it! I may spray paint it later, but for now, I like it. The poem inside was my Dad's. He had in a old brown outdated frame with a navy matte, and it ended up fitting perfectly in here.

I used them both to add to this little wall that leads into our garage.

I didn't get this thrifting, but I thought you might want to see a close-up of it anyway. It's got some of my favorite pictures. It's a collage of me VERY pregnant with #2, and then right after his birth. So sweet... The letters are from a scrapbooking kit I had.

I have already promised Ava we will make her a Strawberry Shortcake costume for Halloween, but this Cinderella dress-up gown was only $3.99! It's brand new. She's going to a "tea party" for her little friends birthday in a couple of weeks, so she wants to wear it there.

Last but not least, I found this quilt rack. I've been wanting one of these for a long time. I don't know exactly how I will refurbish it though. I'm thinking white distressed...but I'm not sure. I would love some suggestions if you have any~

This little rock is part of the vignette I showed you above. I leave it in the metal hand. Mike bought it for me when we were on vacation in Philly, and I just love it.

God is Great

Our kids take turns saying grace before we eat our meals. I thought it would be cute to make a painting of one of our favorite blessings. It's painted on a piece of wood. I hung it in the kitchen by our eating area.

Turquoise and red is becoming a theme in my house.

I made some 4 x 4 prints and put them in frames. If you want one, I have some in my etsy shop. There's black frames...

or white...

Does your family have any blessings that you use regularly? One of my other favorites is this little song: Oh the Lord is good to me, and so I thank the Lord, for giving me, the things I need...the sun and the rain and the apple seed, Oh the Lord is good to me!
