Thrifty Treasures

I found this tall skinny shelf at Goodwill for $4.99. I love the color and the natural distressing. I'm planning on making a huge posie to cover up that country heart.

This Demdaco frame was only 99 cents at Goodwill.

How sanitary is it to buy used salt and pepper shakers? They are dishwasher safe, but I'm still getting the heeby-jeeby factor for some reason. I don't know, but I love the color and they were $1.99 for the set.
Do you see a color theme going on here? This cute quilted bag (in browns and blues again!) washed really well and will work great for "art on the go" bag. ~$1.99~

Does anyone else have an "art on the go" bag? It's for those moments that you have to wait, like in the car line at school or at a Doctor's appt., etc. Small embroidery projects, inspirational art and home decor magazines, and small pieces of paper to cut for some decoupage or usually in my bag. Does anyone else do that or am I just that addicted to crafts?:)

On another note, here's a silly joke I heard at church today:
A preacher trained his horse to go when he said, "Praise the Lord," and to stop when he said, "Amen". The preacher mounted the horse, said, "Praise the Lord" and went for a ride. When he wanted to stop for lunch, he said, "Amen". He took off again, saying, "Praise the Lord". The horse started going toward the edge of the cliff. The preacher got excited and said, "Whoa!". Then he remembered and said, "Amen", so the horse stopped at the edge. The preacher was so relieved that he looked up to heaven and said, "Praise the Lord!"

Thanks for looking! Now head over to Rhoda's for some more great finds.

Great bargains. I remember when hearts on everything was the rage, and now everyone is trying to cover them up, same way with ducks. :-)
Cute joke.

Cute joke - hee hee hee! Great finds. Now how dirty can a salt & pepper shaker be? Love the shelf. I got rid of a shelf with a heart on it a while back and just got the brainstorm of buying one of those wooden appliqués to cover it. Now I am so sorry I got rid of the shelf! Argh! Linda

Ha!Great joke!
Yes, I have a bag that goes in my car...it has come in very handy!

I like all your finds! And the color must be catching your eye for some reason! It's beautiful.

When I buy glasses and dishes from thrift stores, I also give them several good baths...one in hot sudsy water and one in a little Clorox water. If the item is dishwasher safe, I run in through a couple of times. Not sure if that's necessary, I just feel a bit better.

Like your tall shelf. I recently posted a table w/a heart and covered it w/a wooden plaque that I am embellishing. Thing is- the heart was huge- 8 in.! The S & P shakers are a cute color- how icky could they possibly get? LOL
BTW, Funny joke!!

Love the shelf & shakers! Such a pretty color on the shakers. Isnt it funny how many wooden things with heart cutouts there are lurking at yardsales & thrift stores?

I have thrifted shakers but I havent used them. Never really thought about it!

Salt and pepper shakers...really no issue! Wash em in the dishwasher and they'll be good as new. Think how many USED salt and pepper shakers at restraunts you have used!!

How cute that everything is so color-coordinated! ..and I love those colors anyway! On another note, my mom got a salt & pepper set at a yard sale and they came filled, too. Honestly, I don't think she even changed it out! :-(

Remember when hearts were the rage?? I have seen a couple of shelves that I would have loved to have. . . but they had the heart cut out. I am definitely rethinking the hearts, maybe add a wooden applique to cover it??? I get the heebee jeebees also about used food containers, but then I put them through the dishwasher and I'm ok with it :)

I love that bag! I used carry one to drs. appointments during the winter so I could work on my Christmas cards. I like one of the other poster's idea about getting a wood applique to put over the heart on your shelf. I just might have to keep my eye out for a shelf now that I have an idea to cover the heart. Good luck with the transformation!

I love all your treasures, especially the really tall shelf. I used to have an on the go bag but it was filled with magazine and newspaper articles that I would pull out and read while waiting for my kids when I was their own personal taxi. Now my kids are 23 and 28 and I have all the time in the world to read, so maybe I need an art bag.

About that heart....I'm not sure what you mean about covering it. How?
I have an adorable little chest that holds dolls and books and it has ...gosh, can't remember if it's bears or hearts cut out...and I've been trying to figure out how to change that.
I see lots of nice wooden pieces at goodwill with the heart cut out - if I could only think of a solution! I tat lace and heart motifs are very common but I really don't want to do that....just thought of something! Tiles! Those little 3 x 3 or 4 x 4 decorative tiles. I can even paint them to do what I want. Glad I rambled on here since I came up with a solution for ME! LOL!
