And here is my version:
I didn't want to paint directly on the wall, so we used an extra piece of wood measuring 24 x 24. Differences from the original: I wanted it to have a distressed look, and Logan wanted it to say "sk8ter" on it. Total cost: $0. I had the wood and paint already.
I used plywood because I already had a piece in the garage. It is a very light wood too, so it's easy to hang. They sell them at Home Depot and Lowe's already cut to this size.
I gave it a coat of white house paint.Using my printer, I printed the decal picture onto a transparency. I used my projector to enlarge it to the size of the wood and traced it. I've had my projector for about 5 years and I use it quite often. I bought mine new at Office Max for about $100, but some libraries or even schools loan theirs out. Perhaps you could find one on Craig's List? Anyway, I love having one.
It was a quick and easy project, and saved me some moola! Now if I could just find him a bed frame...:)
Now head over to Kimba's for more DIY projects, and Kimm's for Trash to Treasure.

Very clever and resourceful. I like yours better!
We did this as teens for our Youth Auditorium at church. It looked great and so does yours!! I love the distressed look to it.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! This is genius and the distressed look is FAB!!
I am going to try it out with another design... I can't wait!!
I am in such awe of your talents and sharing it all with us. Just love your ideas and the finished products!
Very cool! I cut lots of things out of pricey magazines and try to copy them best I can! Love yours!
This is great. I may just have to find a projector. I hand painted a road on my sons wall and it would be fun to project some cars and things.
I love Pottery Barn too, but of course I would rarely pay their prices. I wonder if you've thought of using a skateboard on a headboard for his bed? I saw this yesterday and when I saw your post I thought of it. Of course the price is even more outrageous than Pottery Barn, but it looks like it's a possible DIY.
I love it. What an awesome idea.

Wow! that is really cool. I like yours better than the PB version! Thanks for sharing with Trash to Treasure Tuesday!
I love copying PB stuff--I was in there today getting all kinds of ideas.
Great job on the skater art. Looks great! And for a headboard--try Craigslist. I got one free for my son's room and painted it.

That looks great--and it's free. Ebay has the decals for $25 I believe--FYI.
I like yours better ... and I would leave it like is: the BG blends in w/ wall which makes the skater stand out! Thanks for the tutorial!!
That is so cool! Great idea.
Love this! I like it so much better than PB's!! Way to go!!
What a great idea! I have two boys and they always want fat heads and other decals....I will definantly be copying if you don't mind! Thanks for the idea! ~Ashley~ shanty2chic

What a great idea! I agree with everyone else, yours is much better!
I love yours and would love to see it with a black border. This rocks!
Looks great! Awesome for a boys room. I think yours looks better than PB. And I like the Sk8ter addition.
Love a PB knockoff!
Great job :)
Very clever and what a great savings. You have my creative wheels turning now, thanks.
